Finally, they got on to it. Gertjan and I had to hold their hands while going up on an escalator. When reached at the top, they were fascinated and laugh and laugh. It was a funny scene but we can understand that these people have seen an escalator just now for their whole life. We the "civilized people" might know how to ride on an escalator but most of us cannot climb a coconut tree. But they can... :)
There is only one small mall in Sentani. These villagers don't dare to go on the escalator for the first time. We saw them just staring at it, puzzling why these stairs are moving and look hesitant. So Gertjan tried to teach them how to get on it.
