Homeschooling and learning!

This year I decided to homeschool Marielle.  I am using Sonlight which is an American Curriculum.  I have been to one of the Homeschooling Conferences way back 2009 in the US.
.

Once a week Marielle has a craft day with other girls, Reece and Zoe. Natalie Holsten is handling their Craft Day every Friday!

Marielle and Reece are the 2 buddies in homeschool at the MAF base in Sentani.
They were making Egyptian collar from their History subject!

Starring Becky Perez, Reece's mom praying before they start the day of lesson.  Each of them has to pray and give thanks.

Becky and I are taking turns to teach each week just for one day.  The girls are so happpy to become classmates in homeschool time!

Johan's first day at school!

Johan started his schooling in August 22, 2012.  He was very excited to see his close friends and schoolmates.  He loves school for sure!  For that reason, we are glad and happy!

Mrs. Dion McClure is handling the 4th grade where Johan is sitting this year.
Johan has Korean, Papuan, Canadian and American classmates.  They are International School because of that I guess, but they are using an American curriculum.

Papuan meals!

I just wrote about recently the Indofood and Filipino style of cooking.  Here I wanted to know of what the real Papuan food.  The photo below shows my "pembantu" ( house girl) with "singkong", called cassava in a known language in her hand.

Her name is Melince.  I got her when she was selling bananas at my front yard.  For the first time, I have to ask her to buy cassava for me so we could both eat it!  I love it!

This woody looking fruit is called singkong in Bahasa Indonesia and kamoteng kahoy in Visayan language.  You need to peel the fruit and the flesh is white and hard.  When you boil it, usually that's how the Papuan cooked it, you would see that it turns into yellow.  They said that this fruit is rich in cyanide which is very poisonous.  So there is a special process on how you peel it, cook it and prepare it!

Indo-Filipino meals!

Asian food has the natural and perfect flavor from the real spices to mention the Indofood spices. Now I am introducing it to my Filipino family.  I made Indonesian chicken curry with a pure taste of fresh coconut cream with it.  I blended it with chopsuey dish in Philippine style.

And of course, a freshly cooked steamed rice with "dukut", some kind of burny tasty rice which watered all Filipino mouths!

Having food in the midst of the table would make my family happy! I am so grateful that I could share this meal with them with a dash of Indofood!

Special family time, friend's visit and vacation!

There is so much to tell and share about on our furlough time.  There is no enough space to say it.
Pictures and few stories will do the communication.

The above foto is taken when we had our Dutch family reunion.  Below, my sister's wedding Meshel( OM- Cebu staff) and Pastor Meliton got married in the Philippines.

We visited our faithful Dutch-Indo friends in Asperen!

We thank God to our special friends Pastor Kirk Importante and Ate Eva with Ate Araceli. Just catching up these friends made our time wonderful!

family and funtime on furlough!

When in Holland... we went to the Blijdorp Zoo!

We were treated by the Familie Sterk (Sjon en Marit) for a fun day at the zoo.

Furlough in the Netherlands!

This is the flag of the Royal Kingdom of the Netherlands.  There is an orange color in here for it is our Queen's Day!

Marit made us a yummy welcome cake when we came in Holland.  Marit is our home front committee as well as Gertjan's sister.

We looked as if we weren't had any jetlog at this photo. Because we were so glad to be home again from the two year's field assignment and long flights.

This was our first trip to see a bit of beautiful nature in Holland.
We visited the "Keukenhof" !
In a big wooden shoe ( clog) of the keukenhof. We were pretending that
we were in a small boat.
